The Boeing P-8 Poseidon, a maritime patrol aircraft that debuted in 2013 and completed its first test flight in 2009, is another Boeing masterpiece. The Greek mythological God of the Sea inspired the name Poseidon, which designates this ASW and ASUW aircraft. As of January 2019, there were eight buildings constructed.

The US Navy, along with the RAAF, RAF, RNoAF, RNZAF, and ROKN, uses the Poseidon. Following a successful launch, the Naval Air Systems Command resumed full speed manufacturing in 2013. Boeing was awarded a $2.04 billion contract to construct the Poseidons.
But Boeing wasn't always guaranteed the contract. A fixed-price contract was given to Lockheed, but it was canceled for unspecified reasons. Boeing's proposal defeated Lockheed Martin's and BAE Systems', the latter of which was judged to be too "politically unrealistic," in the rerun of the contract competition.
